Why do these high tec vehicles need a different approach?
In short, it’s because they are electric.
As these cars are powered by battery and electricity, they have power cables that run through certain panels in the body of the car, mainly the passenger side quarter panel where the charge port is.
Knowing where these are is imperative. With most paintless dent removals, the dents are pushed out from the back side of the panel, sometimes with sharp tip tools.
Now if we do this and don’t know where the cables are and a mistake is made, it can be bad news for the car and the technician working on it.
If a cable is pierced it can spark and start a fire.
Aluminium Tesla Dent Repair
There are several panels on a Tesla which are made of aluminium, most notably the bonnet and doors. Aluminium is more difficult to repair than steel, heat is need to make it pliable and requires different tooling.
Aluminium panels are still repaired with the same techniques, (pushing from inside or glue pulling) they just take longer with the different approach.
